So DH decided he needed a new toy: a 3D printer. I figured he needed a few easy, straightforward projects to practice on.

I love my low-profile, Honex-tensioned, Bluster Bay shuttle. I hate the rolled paper pirns that came with it. They're deeply dimpled, and catch fine yarns so as to ruin the selvedges (which is what you buy a tensioned shuttle for in the first place).

It took DH a few tries to get the inner dimensions correct, but I now have a 3D-printed pirn. I haven't used it yet, because I'm still threading the painted warp. The surface appears to have enough "tooth" so that the yarn doesn't slip down too quickly, but is much smoother than the rolled paper pirn.

I will report more details after using the pirn.
