Threading Underway

Here's the first inch (80 threads) all done and tied into 1/2-inch groups:

I really like the blending of the three warp colors (navy, medium teal, light blue). Click the thumbnail to see the bigger version.

In looking at the image, I began to wonder how close the new camera will focus. It's always fun to show close-ups on the blog, but I usually have to put the cloth on the scanner and scan it at a very high resolution, then crop to a small portion of the whole image. Which means waiting till the cloth is cut off the loom.

No longer! In "smart" mode, in which the camera is making all the decisions for you, this puppy will focus down to about 1" away from the subject. I got out one of the recently pressed pink towels, and gave it a whirl. Remember, the warp is 20/2 unmercerized cotton, and the weft is 30/2 mercerized cotton.

Apparently, the camera wasn't exactly parallel to the surface of the cloth, because the focus at the top is sharper than at the bottom. However, each fleur-de-lis motif is just under 1 inch across, so this is pretty good! Again, click the thumbnail to see the bigger version.

Today is the Atascadero Wine and Art Festival, and DH has a booth selling his lathe-turned wood pieces. Bowls, vases, candlesticks, etc. We'll be busy for the rest of the day, setting up the booth, selling (hopefully), and then tearing it all down later. If you're in the area, the Festival is at the Atascadero Lake Park, from 4pm until 8pm.

Hi, I really love your blog, it is very inspiring, and I specially like you sharing all the technical details with us.
I wonder how you keep track of the complicated threadings you use?
Greetings from Inge in Denmark
