Future Jacquard Projects

In between tying on more sections of the jacquard warp, and beaming sections of the 24-shaft warp, I've been going though my collection of images that would lend themselves to jacquard weavings. I prefer to begin with my own photos, or pictures that were taken by DH or my sister or my mother, because they have more meaning to me than random images obtained from other sources.

I took this shot in France, at a chateau somewhere in the Loire valley. It was 1974, and I had just spent my 30th birthday on a plane to Europe to spend 6 months traveling. What a way to spend 30!

Here it is, after a lot of manipulation in P'shop. I then indexed the image to 11 colors, and fiddled with the color table until I had a range of rust-oranges and a few blue-greys.

Using colors that are complements (or nearly so) really makes the image pop.

The goal, for now, is to come up with images for the Trees & Leaves series that can be woven with 2 or 3 shuttles - this one should be just 2.

You'll see more of this one once I start weaving again.

As a huge fan of autumn colors, I cannot wait to see how this turns out!
