Here are partial views of a couple of the scarves:



The embossing/stamping process flattens out the pile of the velvet in areas, which changes the way the surface reflects light. Simple, quick to do, and very effective.
The first two were embossed with rubber stamps, and the last with some carved wood batik blocks I bought at a long-ago weaving conference. I never did get around to learning to do batik dyeing, but the blocks work very well for stamping velvet, so the blocks have come in very handy.

Those look so neat. Can you achieve the same (or similar effect) using rayon chenille?
