Holidays and Remembrances

The blog will be on hiatus for 10-14 days, while DH and I relax at the cabin in Montana. Last trip, I had trouble moving images from the camera to the laptop, so I can't promise that I'll be able to post (with pictures, anyway) while away. Seems the laptop isn't new enough to be able to read the 6-GB card that the camera uses. It has a slot for that type of card, but chokes when asked to actually read it.

One of my favorite aunts passed away a couple of months ago at the age of 94, and I've been given a huge stack of photographs she collected of all her nieces and nephews. This is one I don't think I've ever seen before, and I was too young at the time to remember the event. In any case, here is a black-and-white photo that's been scanned, manipulated to increase contrast, and indexed to 9 shades of grey, with the intent of weaving 10-end satin versions for my sister and myself:

That's me on the left (maybe 4 years old?), and my sister on the right (probably 8), with the Flower Queen in the middle. Aileen was one of the sweetest, kindest people in the world, and when the nephews and nieces met to attend memorial services and to celebrate her life, I could imagine her looking down at us with delight. She would have been so happy to watch us enjoy one another's company and share remembrances of a wonderful, loving aunt.

A treasure. Such good contrast, too. I know it will be a successful weaving. I'll bet you can't wait to get started!
