Good News!

I've learned that two jacquard pieces I had shipped off to a special exhibit in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Fair have been purchased. Both to the same person, who visited the fair on the 1st or 2nd day and told the exhibit's docent (a fellow member of Designing Weavers) she was in love. So once the exhibit closes in early October, the pieces will be shipped to their new home.

On a related note, the purchaser wondered if I had ever worked with deep space images (she works at JPL on various NASA-related projects) as subjects for weaving. So I spent some time trawling the image archives at nasa.gov, and found some very beautiful images that might translate well into weavings. Just goes to illustrate that "one thing leads to another" is a true statement, no matter what "things" you have in mind.

On a less happy note, I had blood drawn yesterday and visited the doctor today to get the results. Potassium: too high. Uric acid: too high. Triglycerides: too high. That means my morning smoothies will have to go without bananas for a while, and my daily drug cocktail will increase in scope.

According to Wikipedia, "Excess serum accumulation of uric acid can lead to a type of arthritis known as gout. This painful condition is the result of needle-like crystals of uric acid precipitating in joints and capillaries." The doctor thinks that what I've been calling arthritis (meaning osteoarthritis) may actually be gout. Odd, because when I think of gout, I think of rotund, unhealthy English men whose diet consists of way too much meat and cheese (and alcohol), and very little fruit and veg - invariably seen in period films with one foot propped up on a footstool, cursing "this damned gout!" Hey, that's not my typical diet at all! Why me?

Yes, good and bad news. Really glad to hear the good stuff, and congrats on that. The bad stuff -- doesn't sound too terrible if you take good care of yourself. Can't wait to see what you do with space photos on the loom!

Apparently eating cherries and strawberries can help remove excess uric acid. Should make a good smoothie?????
