Late June is when the tiny peanut cactus decides to decorate itself with blooms:
The largest of the cactus segments are about the same diameter as my little finger; the blooms are 2 to 2.5 inches across. The flowers close when the sun goes down and reopen in the morning, but only last 2 or 3 days at most. The cactus is fairly prolific, though, in spite of my haphazard watering schedule, so the bloom season lasts several weeks.
