Shingles

Not the kind that keep the roof from leaking...

Just came back from the local medical clinics, where the MD said that my developing rash is actually shingles. Even though I've had the vaccine! Just proves that no vaccine is infallible.

The biggest disappointment is that the main reason for coming to Montana now was to attend a big family reunion: 24 first cousins, with all their kids and grandkids. The MD said that I MUST not attend because I'll be contagious and dangerous for small children, the elderly (I.e., all the cousins in my age bracket), and anyone who hasn't had chickenpox or the vaccine.

So I'm grounded for a while. Oh well, more time to spin!

I, too, had shingles a few years after receiving the vaccine. It was a very light case, just rash and mild itching lasting a coule of weeks. I attribute the briefness to the vaccine working at reduced effectiveness. If you read up on the vaccine, you’ll find that its effectiveness varies. 65% stays in my mind as average. My doctor said that I was not contagious for chicken pox. However, I stayed away from children just in case.

Hope your experience is mild.
